Walking Tips for the Parklands

Things to know before you head out — we've learned these from years of walking these routes

Wear proper footwear

Even the "easy" routes have muddy sections after rain. Waterproof walking boots beat trainers every time. The woodland paths especially need good grip.

Start early if you can

The parklands are quieter in the morning. You'll see more wildlife and have better light for photos. Plus, parking fills up after ten on weekends.

Bring water, even for short walks

There aren't water fountains on the routes. A small bottle makes a difference, especially if you're walking on a warm day or moving at your own pace.

Check the weather — seriously

Wind can be strong across the open meadow sections. Rain changes the riverside trail quite a bit. A quick check before you go saves frustration.
